He , according to federal census records, was a farm laborer in 1900 in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He died on Feb 26 1904 in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.⁽¹³⁵⁾ The Marietta Times of Friday, Feb. 26, 1904 reported the following, "JOHN HAWKINS - Mr. John Hawkins died at his home at Moores Junction this morning, of the grip. - He was seventy one years of age and leaves a wife and several children. - The funeral will be held at the house at 11 A.M. Sunday and interment will occur at Tunnel. He was buried on Feb 29 1904 in Tunnel Cemetery, Washington Co., Ohio.

He was married to Nancy McKay (daughter of John McKay and Margaret Jean Fleming) on Nov 13 1856 in Washington Co., Ohio.⁽¹³⁶⁾ He was divorced from Nancy McKay about 1859.⁽¹³⁷⁾ Nancy McKay was born on Oct 22 1838 in Glasglow, Scotland. ⁽¹³⁸⁾ She died on Mar 10 1919 in Washington Co., Ohio.⁽¹³⁸⁾ She died from burns she received while attempting to light a kitchen stove. She was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio.⁽¹³⁸⁾ John Hawkins and Nancy McKay had the following children:

He was married to Martha Pitts (daughter of Morrison "Morris" Pitts and Lear Smith) on May 16 1863 in Washington Co., Ohio. ^(139)(140) Martha Pitts ⁽¹⁰²⁾ was born on Jul 4 1842 in Virginia. Martha Pitt's death certificate says she was born July 4, 1834 in Warren Township. The 1850 and 1860 census records indicate that she was born about 1842 in Virginia. The 1900 census gives her birth as July 1845. She died on Oct 9 1913 in Marietta, Ohio. She was buried in Tunnel Cemetery, Washington Co., Ohio. John Hawkins and Martha Pitts had the following children:
