(131) She died on Jul 5 1916 in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.(131) Her obituary appeared in the Marietta Times of July 14, 1916 and read, "HANNAH CATHERINE VAN VALEY - Hannah Catherine Van Valey, daughter of Solomon and Elizabeth Van Valey, was born at Watertown, O, June 8, 1845; departed this life July 5, 1916, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Warren Martin, of Warren township, aged 71 years and 27 days. She was one of a family of nine chldren, the surviving members of whom are Mrs. Lydia Pattin, Mrs. Emma McClure, Mrs. Hattie Alexander and William of Kansas, Mrs. Bessie Babb of Oregon, Mrs. Nellie Snow, of Waterford, O., and John W. of California. - On June 25, 1862, she was united in marriage with Jacob Johnson, of Warren township. To this union were born eleven children, one of whom died in infancy. The others, Perl, Gus and Mrs. Chas. Sciance, of Fleming; Mrs. Warren Martin, of Warren township; Charles, of Waterford; Mrs. Etta Hart, of Ironton; Arthur of Vincent; Henry, Lonnie and Mrs Ida Hawkins, of Beverly, together with 34 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends are left to mourn her loss. She became a member of the U.B. church when quite young, some years later transferring her member ship to the Warren M.E. church where she remained a member until her death. For the past few years she has made her home with her son, Henry, of Beverly, where she will be sadly missed in the home and neighborhood. - Funeral services were held from the Warren M.E. church at 10:30 A.M., July 7, 1916, following a short service at the home, conducted by Rev. Ryan of the Beverly Christian church. Interment in the Warren chapel cemetery. The last sad rites were particularly impressive in that every member of her large family was present and her light form was borne to its last resting place by her six stalwart sorrowing sons. She was one of our Civil war mothers and with the cares of her large family has known the depths of sorrow as well as the attending joys. Since becoming a widow, March 11, 1905, she has more and more endeared herself to her children by her gentle presence and loving administrations in whose homes she spent so much of her time and where her lovable companionship will be so sadly missed.

A previous one from us is gone
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our homes
Which never can be filled.

God, in his wisdom has recalled
The boon his love had given;
And tho the body moulders here,
The soul is safe in Heaven."
