SECOND GENERATION

4. William Locker Sr. was born about 1772 in Maryland.(10) He was living in Loudoun Co., Virginia when his son, Thomas, was born. He was living in or passing through Rockingham Co., Virginia in 1816 when his son, William, was born. He immigrated about 1818 to Wood County, Virginia (now WV). (11) He was living in 1820 in Marietta Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He returned to Wood Co. around 1824 (probably after the epidemic of 1823). I have concluded this from the fact that his son, George, was born in Ohio about 1823 and in 1825, 75 acres of land near Big Run in Wood County was deeded by Thomas Hawkins to his son, John Hawkins, husband of Mary Locker Hawkins (William's niece). It was noted as the "land on which William Locker now lives." He died before 1860 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV).

William Locker Sr. had the following children:

child+16 i. Capt. George W. Locker.
child17 ii. John Locker was born before 1802 in Virginia. (9) John probably was a child from a previous marriage also, seeing that his father is about thirteen years older than Eleanor. He died on Jul 21 1823 in Marietta, Ohio. Died in the Epidemic of 1823.

He was married to Ellenor "Ellen" Jenkins. Ellenor "Ellen" Jenkins(11) was born about 1785 in Virginia.(12) She died on Apr 15 1857 in Wood County, West Virginia.(13) William Locker Sr. and Ellenor "Ellen" Jenkins had the following children:

child18 i. ______ Locker was born between 1803 and 1820 in Virginia. (14) He (or she) died on Sep 26 1823 in Marietta, Ohio. Died in the Epidemic of 1823. Child's name is not given in the death roll, he or she is just listed as the child of Mr. Locker. I believe this is the Locker child that is buried in Mound Cemetery, Marietta, Ohio.
child19 ii. Elizabeth Locker(15) was born about 1805 in Virginia. Apparently she never married. She is listed in the household of her brother, Lloyd, in 1860, 1870, and 1880. She died after 1880.
child+20 iii. Thomas Wesley Locker.
child+21 iv. Nancy Locker.
child+22 v. William Locker Jr..
child23 vi. George Locker(16) was born about 1823 in Ohio.
child24 vii. Eliza E. Locker(17) was born about 1826 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV). Apparently she never married. She is listed in the household of her brother, Lloyd, in 1860, 1870, and 1880. She died after 1880.
child25 viii. Loyd Locker(18) was born in Sep 1827 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV).(19) He , according to federal census records, was a farm laborer in 1860 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV). He , according to federal census records, was a farmer between 1870 and 1900 in Williams District, Wood Co., West Virginia. He was also a carpenter. In the "Fruitful Valley, A Chronicle of Williamstown, West Virginia" published by the Williamstown Historical Committee, the following history is given, "The hillside and hollow were filled with wild plum trees where flocks of pigeons roosted. Therefore, the second name of Plum Run school is Pigeon Roost. It was a one-room school at first, but in 1891 a second room was added, the rooms being known as the Big Room were grades 4 through 8 were taught and the Little Room for grades 1 to 4. There were no seats or desks available when the first teacher, T. A. Webb, opened school so the pupils sat on a long board. A shelf was placed along the wall where pupils stood to do their writing. The first desks were made by Lloyd Locker in 1874 of 12-inch boards, one for the seat, one for the back, and one for the desk. These were used until 1883 when the Board furnished factory-made desks. The water well was at the foot of the hill. I-77 is on the exact location of the school and only the well is visible to mark the location on the hill." Apparently he never married. He is listed as head of household in 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1900 and several of his siblings made their home with him.
child26 ix. Alvin Locker(20) was born in Jan 1829 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV).(19) He , according to federal census records, was a farm laborer in 1860 in Wood County, West Virginia. In 1860 he was living with Thomas Locker. He is living with Lloyd Locker in 1880 and 1900. In the 1900 census he is listed as Loyd's cousin. Apparently he was raised by his uncle, William Locker Sr., then lived with his cousins.
child27 x. Alvina Locker(21) was born about 1840 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV). I have no record of Alvina Locker, after 1850. She was probably a niece to William Locker, Sr. and Alvin's sister..
