FIFTH GENERATION205. Izola Margaret Locker was born on Sep 24 1903 in Kanawha Station, Wood County, West Virginia. (216)(72) She died on Apr 22 1977 in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida. (72) She was buried in Zanesville Memorial Park, Zanesville, Ohio.
She was married to Edison Leroy Carder on May 22 1923 in Wood County, West Virginia.
(72) "Edison Carder went to Zanesville,
Ohio early in 1924 and Izola followed in April after the birth of their first
child, Carl. She and Carl went to Zanesville on the train. She worked very
hard all her life taking care of her growing family. They always had a big garden
and she canned a lot of foodstuffs from the garden as well as berries picked
on the farm. I remember her canning at least 100 quarts each of tomatoes and
berries as well as meat from the pigs butchered each Fall. She would make sausage
on the oilcloth covered table, mixing it with her hands, then frying it down
and then canning it. She also made the bread for the family each week. After
the death of Hazel in 1944, she went to work at a local defense factory where
the Firestone Company covered fuel tanks for airplanes with rubber. After the
Second World War was over, she went to work at Woolworths 5 & 10 cent store
in Zanesville. Later she worked at the Mosaic Tile Company." - Florence
