SECOND GENERATION
2. Walter Locker
(2) was born about 1765 in Virginia.
(3) He was living in 1787 in Loudoun Co., Virginia.
(4) Was was residing in Fairfax Co., Virginia in 1794 when his daughter,
Sarah was born. He was living in 1810 in Fairfax Co., Virginia. Fairfax County
is just below Loudoun County. He was living in 1820 in Wood County, Virginia
(now WV). He died before 1830 in Wood County, Virginia (now WV). He was married
to Mary Barden (daughter of Thomas Barden and
Elizabeth Gorham). Mary Barden
(5) was born in Virginia.(1)
Supposedly, Mary was the niece of Aaron Burr according to Frances Howe Johnson.
Walter Locker and Mary Barden had the following children:
+5 i.
Jeptha B. Locker.
+6 ii.
John H. Locker.
7 iii.
Thomas Locker(1) was born in 1789
in Virginia.(1) According to Frances Howe
Johnson, "Thomas, who never married, made his home with Sally Johnson.
When he drank occasionally, he talked about the family, saying that Locker and
Lockhart were the same family." She also states that he served in the
War of 1812, but I have not found any record of his service.
8 iv.
George Locker was born about 1790.(1)
9 v.
William Locker(1) was born in 1792.
(1) William "was never heard from after
leaving for the Mexican War." -Frances Howe Johnson
+10 vi.
Sarah "Sally" Locker.
+11 vii.
Mary Locker.
+12 viii.
Elizabeth "Betsey" Locker.
13 ix.
James Locker(1) was born about 1804
in Virginia.(6) James year of birth is
somewhat unclear. James' death record listed his age as 52. This would make
his birth date about 1804. Frances Howe Johnson says he served in the War of
1812. Though I have found no record of his service, if 1804 is correct he would
have been 8 years old when the war started.
Frances Howe Johnson states that he lived near Big Run near Marietta, Ohio.
There was a James Locker listed as living alone in the 1820, 1830, 1840 Wood
County, Virginia censuses. In the 1850 Wood Co., Virgina census, he is listed
twice (age 55) - once by himself and then in the household of Obadiah Hiatt in
Wood Co. (unless we have two James Lockers the same age in 1850). If this is
the same James, then he would have been born about 1795.
But other records seem to conflict with him being single all his life. A James
Locker is mentioned in the following entries from Dr. Seth Hart's journal. The
last entry would suggest that he was married. I cannot find another James Locker
in the census records that this information fits.
May 29, 1841, "Peter Shepherd, Cr(edit) By bring 2 hogs from James Locker
- $0.60. James Locker (of Wood Co.) Va. Cr(redit) By the above pigs - $2.00."
June 22, 1843, "James Locker, credit, by 3 quarts currents....$0.12."
August 10, 1844 "James Locker, debtor to visitation and attendance in (childbirth)....$4.00."
He died on Nov 15 1856 in Wood County, West Virginia.
(7) His death record removes any doubt that he was the son of Walter
& Mary Locker. The informant of his death is listed as John H. Locker, his
brother. |
