FIFTH GENERATION64. Elmer Lynn Johnson (17) was born on Jan 4 1895 in Kersey, Colorado. He died on Sep 15 1940 in Bakersfield, California. His obituary from September 1940 is assumed to have appeared in a Bakersfield, California newspaper (found in family album): "E. L. Johnson Burial Rites to be Wednesday Morning Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from Flickinger-Digier chapel for E. L. Johnson, 334 Francis street, Highland Park, who passed away at a local hospital Sunday afternoon following an illness since April 19. Rites are in charge of First Baptist Church where Mr. Johnson had been a member since October, 1935. The Reverent B. C. Barrett will read the eulogy and Mrsa. Carlton Minner and Mrs. Irma Showalter will present a vocal duet accompanied by mrs. Beese Borror who will be at the organ for the services. The independent Order of Odd Fellows will assist at the graveside. Besides hs widow, Mrs. Charlotte Johnson, and his daughter, Barbara Lynn, Mr. Johnson is survived by his father, E. W. Johnson of Greeley, Colo.; two brothers, W. R. Johnson, commissioner of customs at Washington, D.C., E. C. Johnson of New York; two sistrers, Mrs. Betty Shimmons of Gill, Colo., and Mrs. Loustalet Quinn of Omaha, Neb., and two aunts, Anna and Belle Johnson and an uncle, Colonel J. C. Johnson of Chevey Chase, Md. Mr. Johnson was an accountant with the Brandt IKnvestment Company until his illness and was a veteran of the World War. He was born in 1895 in Kersey, Colo., and was reared and educated in Greeley where he attended the teachers colleege. He has been a resident of California 17 years and of Bakersfield 16 years. In Greeley he became identified with Poudre Valley lodge No. 12 of I.O.O.F." [NOTE: Betty Shimmons should say Bevie Shimmons] He was buried in Bakersfield, California. in Greeley, Colorado. Charlotte Pearl Kennedy
(17) was born on Jan 25 1894 in Wilcox, Nebraska.
She died on Oct 24 1990 in Laramie, Wyoming. Her obituary appeared in the Grand
Junction Colorado Daily Sentinel, October 26, 1990 on page 11A: "Charlotte
K. Botkin, Jan. 25, 1894 - Oct 24, 1990 - Charlotte K. Botkin of Laramie, Wyo.,
died Wednesday at her home. She was 96. She was born Jan. 25, 1894, to Parks
Ira Kennedy and Ellen Josephine Culver in Wilcox, Neb. She attended Colorado
State College of Education in Greeley; Peru Normal College, Peru, Neb.; and UCLA.
She taught school in Ault, Greeley, Briggsdale and Sterling, as well as East
Youngstown, Ohio and DeWitt, Neb. Mrs. Botkin worked as a bookkeeper in Fruita
from 1943 to 1965 when she retired. She married Elmer Lynn Johnson on June 22,
1921 in Greeley. He died in 1940-, and on Oct. 27, 1942, she married Paul B.
(sic) Botkin in Los Angeles. He is deceased. Mrs. Botkin was a member and active
in the First United Methodist Church of Fruita. During her younger years she
was the youth choir director at the church. She was also a member of Tau-Alpha-Rho
of Fruita. She enjoyed painting and was an artist, and wrote poetry, played the
piano, and enjoyed sewing. She and her husband Paul loved hunting for and collecting
rocks. Earlier in her life, she worked as an assistant to the pastor of the
First Baptist Church in Bakersfield, Calif., from 1940 through 1942. Survivors
include three sons, William R. Botkin of Denver, Merwin P. Botkin of Laramie,
and Guy R. Botkin of Parachute; a daughter Lynn Johnson Botkin of Laramie; 21
grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Five
sisters, a brother and two sons, Leland Botkin of Fruita, and Jim Botkin of Rock
Springs, Wyo. are deceased. Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in First United
Methodist " Church of Fruita. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
Contributions may be made to either the First United Methodist Church of Fruita
81521 or the Wycliffe Bible Translators, in care of M. P. Botkin, 1521 Steele,
Laramie Wyo. 82070. Bussell-Stryker-Wells Funeral Home of Laramie is in charge
