FOURTH GENERATION

65. Wade Dillon Ritchie (74) was born on Nov 7 1889 in Dunham Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.(92) He died on Dec 24 1928 in Constitution, Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. (59) His obituary appeared in the the Marietta Times of Monday Dec 24 1928; "WADE D. RITCHIE IS SUMMONED BY DEATH Wade Dillon Ritchie, aged 39 years, died at his home at Constitution on Monday at 2 a. m., following an illness of two years with heart trouble and complications. Surviving with his widow, who was formerly Miss Ethel Parke, are six children, Clyde, Bernard, Parke, Eileen, Calvin and Maysell, all at home. His father, Albert Ritchie, of Sapulpa, Okla., also survives, and there are three brothers and a sister, Howard Ritchie, Ernest Ritchie, Floyd Ritchie and Mrs. Clara Morrow." Calvin Ritchie informed me that he and Maysel lived in the Washington County Children's Home after his death. He was buried in Gravel Bank (Riverview) Cemetery near Constitution, Ohio.(13)

He was married to Ethel Saphronia Parke (daughter of William Mason Parke and Amanda Cordelia "Delia" Rollins) on Aug 21 1908 in Wood County, West Virginia.(93) They were married by M. L. Weekley, a United Brethren minister. Ethel Saphronia Parke(43) was born on Mar 15 1893 in Constitution, Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. (9) Some of her relatives spell their surname Parke or Parks. Ethel's mother, Amanda "Delia" Cordelia Rollins and Martha Rollins (Theodore Ritchie's wife) were sisters, so Ethel was a first cousin to Theodore & Martha's children. Wade's grandfather, Alexander, was Theodore's brother, so Wade & Ethel's children where one step closer related to Theodore & Martha's children on the Rollins side. She died on Oct 19 1952 in Marietta, Ohio. (9) Her obituary appeared in the Monday, Oct 20 1952 edition of the Marietta Times; "Mrs. Ethel Sophronia Ritchie, 59, of 324 Pike St., died at 7 p.m. in Marietta Memorial Hospital. -- Mrs. Ritchie had been employed as a waitress in the Putnum Ave. Restaurant until her health failed. -- The daughter of the late Mason and Delia Rollins Parke, she was born in Constitution on March 15, 1893. -- In 1919 she was married to Wade D. Nancy Ritchie, all of Marietta. Eleven grandchildren survive. -- Other survivors include three brothers and one sister, Alvin Parke of Marietta, William and Holly Parke both of Sapulpa, Okla., and Mrs. Clara Chambers of Parkersburg. -- Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Doudna & McClure funeral home in Marietta.
