159. Melvin Blaine Ritchie Sr. was born on Mar 8 1928 in Constitution, Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.(9) He died in 1990 in Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio. His obituary reads: " Melvin Blain Ritchie Sr., 61, of East Sixth Street in Williamstown died on arrival at Marietta Memorial Hospital Tuesday afternoon after a long illness. He was born March 8, 1928, at Constitution, to Mrs. Lillian Hildebrand Ritchie and the late Cecil M. Ritchie. He had spent his early life at Constitution and attended Marietta High School. Ritchie served in the United States Navy and later the United States Army in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He received his discharge when the Jeep carrying him as a passenger hit a land mine. He was a member of Washington County V.F.W. Post 5108 and the D.A.V. His home had been in Florida for several years. He is survived by five sons, Melvin Blaine Ritchie Jr., Congers, N.Y., Fred Ritchie of Waretown, N.J., Harry Ritchie of Toms Rivers, N.J., Jack Ritchie, address unknown, and Timothy Ritchie, Berkshire, N.Y.; one daughter Mary Ritchie Mezatesta, Gandor, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. His mother survives in Constitution with three brothers and one sister, Lewis Ritchie and Robert Ritchie of Marietta; Larry Ritchie of Pinehurst; and Irma Tullius of Marietta of Marietta Route 4. One brother and one sister are deceased. Funeral services will be at the McClure-Schafer Funeral Home with Robert Matthews officiating with military rites. Burial will be in New Jersey. Friends may call at the funeral home until the hour of the services." He was buried in New Jersey.
