(2) According to William's "History of Washington County, Ohio" on page 570, Jacob Ritchey was the son of Abraham and Jane Willoughby Ritchey. He emigrated about 1845 to Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.(3) He , according to federal census records, was a cooper in 1850 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He , according to federal census records, was a farmer in 1860 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He died on Apr 1 1861 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.(4) Jacob drowned in the Ohio River near the mouth of Newell's Run. The following appeared in the April 6, 1861 edition of The Home News; "DROWNED.- A man named Jacob Richey was drowned at the crossing of Newell's Run, Newport township, on Monday evening, about midnight. He was about sixty years old, of rather dissipated habits, and had been drinking, as was proved at the coroner's inquest held by Esq. Amlin. His hat being discovered by the bank, search was made in the back water of the run for his body, which was soon found."

Nancy Ritchey, one of the oldest residents of Washington county, died at 8 o'clock
this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. W. Whitney near Hills, P. O.
The deceased was nearly 90 years of age and had lived in Washington county for
over 70 years, coming from Pennsylvania where she spent her early years. Death
was due to old age and she had been very feeble for a long time, being confined
to her bed for about two and a half years. Seven children, four boys and three
girls, all of whom are well up in years survive her. They are John, W. C., J.
W., and Joseph Ritchey, and Mrs. Jenny Whitney and Mrs. Nancy Hill. All of them
but John Ritchey, who lives in Virginia, are residents of Washington County.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 o'clock at the home of J. W. Whitney."
