70. Clarence Samuel Hupp was born on Jan 21 1915 in Washington County, Ohio. He died on Nov 10 1998 in Marietta, Ohio. His obituary appeared in the Thursday, Nov 12 1998 Marietta Times and read, "Clarence S. Hupp, 83, of Third Street, Marietta, died Tuesday morning (Nov. 10, 1998) at his home. -- He was born Jan. 21, 1915, in Washington County to William and Iva Ritchie Hupp. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II in the African-European Theater. He had been employed as a steelworker at Kardex until his retirement. He was a member of Washington County Post 5108, Veterans of Foreign Wars. -- He is survived by three sons, Dean Hupp, Douglas Hupp and his wife, Betsy, and Samuel Hupp and his wife, Lucille, all of Marietta; one daughter, Barbara Lyons and her husband, Argil, of Vienna, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Schaffer and Bernadine Gibbs, both of Marietta; and several nieces and nephews. -- On June 29, 1936, he married Carrie Marie Wendelken. She died Oct. 15, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Edith Hill; and two brothers, Clifford and Lloyd Hupp. -- Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at McClure Schafer Funeral Home with Robert Matthews officiating. Burial is in Valley Cemetery with military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home until the hour of the services." He was buried on Nov 13 1998 in Valley Cemetery, Reno, Ohio.
