Mary Frances Richey was born on Feb 14 1856 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. ^(14)(35) She died on Oct 10 1948 in Marietta, Ohio.⁽³⁵⁾ Her obituary appeared in the Monday Evening, Oct. 11, 1948 Marietta Times. It read as follows; " Mrs. Mary Close Dies Here Sunday - Mrs. Mary F. Close, 92, widow of Martin Close, lifelong resident of Washington Co., died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Hall, 218 Spring St., following decline. - Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Doudna and McClure's. Burial will be in Valley cemetery. - Mrs. Close was born Feb. 14, 1856, in Newport Twp., a daughter of John and Frances Marshall Richey. Her husband Martin Close, died in 1934. - Survivors are her daughters, Mrs. Flora Becker and Mrs. Margaret Hall, Marietta; Mrs. Fannie Skinner of New Philadelphia; Mrs. Bessie Gleeson of New York City; Mrs. Alta Fleming of Tonawanda, N. Y., and Mrs. Jennie Rimbly of Buckeye Lake. - Sisters are Mrs. Anna Haynes of Long Run and Mrs. Elizabeth Mendenhall of Eight Mile. There are 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren." She was buried on Oct 12 1948 in Valley Cemetery, Reno, Ohio. ⁽³⁵⁾

She was married to Martin Close on Feb 28 1875 in Washington County, Ohio.⁽³⁹⁾ Martin Close was born on Jan 8 1853 in Germany. ⁽³⁵⁾ He died on Feb 22 1934 in New Philadelphia, Ohio. ⁽³⁵⁾ His Feb. 23, 1934 Marietta Times obituary reads as follows, "Martin Close, 81, former resident of Marietta, died on Thursday evening at 9 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Skinner of New Philadelphia. - The deceased was born in Germany on January 8, 1853, and with his parents came to the United States at the age of three years. He spent most of his life in the Yankeeburg neighborhood. He is survived by six daughters and one brother, Charles Close of Yankeeburg. One son and one daughter preceded him in death. - The body was brought to the Doudna & McClure funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Yankeeburg Church at 1 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Yankeeburg cemetery. The body will remain at the Doudna & McClure funeral home until Sunday noon." He was buried on Feb 25 1934 in Yankeeburg Cemetery, Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. Mary Frances Richey and Martin Close had the following children:
