2. John Calhoun Ritchey (3) was born on Jun 28 1828 in Erie, Pennsylvania. (5) He , according to federal census records, was a cooper in 1850 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He died on Jan 13 1918 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. His obituary (name misgiven as Joshua) appeared in the January 13, 1918 edition of the Sunday Morning Observer and read; "Joshua Richey - 89 of Newport township, well known and highly respected farmer, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jacob Theobald, in Newport Township, Jan. 6th. Death was due to infirmities. He was born in Erie, Pa., June 28, 1828, and when he was ten years of age moved with his parents to Newport Township, where he lived the balance of his life. His wife (Frances Marshall) preceded him in death 12 years ago. To them were born eight children, six of whom survive: Mrs. Jacob Theobald, Mary Close, of Marietta; Mrs Hannah Haynes, of Long Run; Mrs Rease Mendenhall and George W., of Eight Mile, and P. J. (mistake, should read T. C.) Richey, of Muskingum Drive. He is also survived by 32 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Beech Grove church and interment was made in the cemetery at that place." He was buried in Beech Grove Cemetery.

He was married to Frances A. Marshall (daughter of Benjamin Marshall and Frances Gillingham) on Oct 19 1851 in Washington County, Ohio.(6) They where married by George Willis, a Justice of the Peace. Frances A. Marshall(7) was born on Oct 20 1834 in Columbiana Co., Ohio. She died on Jul 12 1906 in Newport Twp., Washington Co., Ohio.(4) She was buried in Beech Grove Cemetery. John Calhoun Ritchey and Frances A. Marshall had the following children:
