He certainly was also a farmer and owned a farm very close to his father's. After he moved to Sault Ste. Marie he worked as a Customs and Immigration Officer.
Allan Hanratty has his date of death as Aug. 15,1913. My information from Suzie was

He may have died in Michigan or Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
The 1878 Valuation Roll shows he owned part of Lots 2 & 3, Range 5 of Calumet Island.

He was married to Margaret (Maggie) MERCHANT (daughter of Joseph MERCHANT SR. and Bridget BENSON) on 6 Feb 1869 in Calumet Island. Margaret (Maggie) MERCHANT was born on 8 Mar 1849 in Litchfield Township, Que.. 1901 census shows her birth as Mar.8,1949 but Ste. Anne's church records shows her baptism at 2 months of age on August 5,1849 She was baptized on 8 May 1849 in Ste. Anne's Calumet Is.. ⁽³⁾ Godfather was Thomas Coyne. Godmother's name illegible. She died on 11 Nov 1918 in Calumet Island,Quebec. Also known as MARCHANT.
Father Marc Gauthier of Ste. Anne's Parish Calumet Island wrote me that she is listed in their records as Margaret Marchant dit Paquet. Her parents were listed as Joseph Merchant and Bridget Benson of Litchfield (now Vinton, Que.). Godparents were James Coyne and Ann Toner. She was baptized May 8,1848.

She may have died in Michigan. Thomas Albert HANRATTY and Margaret (Maggie) MERCHANT had the following children:
