(55) In "Cemetaries of Guernsey County, Ohio, Monroe Twp, Vol.
7, p. 42, the names of Ann Mariah Kennedy & Isaac M. Kennedy are listed as
"d/o W. & M." and "s/o W.& M.". It is known from
1850 & 1860 Census Records that these are the children of William Kennedy,
so his wife's name must have started with "M". In the 1850 Census
no wife is listed, and "Scott" and "Georgeana" were not in
the household at the time. They were in the 1860 Census along with William's
second wife Rachel. Since no wife was listed in the 1850 Census, it seems to
indicate that by that time his first wife was deceased. It is likely at this
point that Mary Kennedy (1815-1848) found in the above cemetary records is the
first wife. "Georgeana" is too young to be by her if this is true.
Questions: "Is this the right wife?". "Is Georgeana and/ or
Scott by Rachel in a previous marriage-her age is such that this could be the
case?" "Was William's first wife someone else who died between the
birth of Georgeana in 1852 and marriage to Rachel in 1855?" These questions
need to be answered before it can be said with certainty that this Mary Kennedy
is his first wife. [It could even be possible that she is William's sister].
