Deloris Mary Riherd, 74, of Sioux City died Monday, June 22, 1998, at a Sioux City hospital following a sudden illness.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be at 2 P.M. Thursday in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 5 P.M. today at Berkemier Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 6 P.M. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 P.M., at the church.
Mrs. Riherd was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Chris and Grace (McInnis) Bockelman. She was raised in Chatsworth and graduated from Hawarden High School. She attended aircraft business school in Des Moines.
She married Wayne J. Riherd on June 12, 1943, in Glenwood, Iowa. The couple made their home in Omaha. They moved to Wichita, Kansas., in 1951, where she was employed as an aircraft inspector at Boeing Aircraft Company. They moved to the Beresford and Alcester, South Dakota,. area, where they farmed until 1969. They then moved to rural Sioux City, where they farmed.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens of Jefferson, S.D., and served as an election board judge for Plymouth County. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Pam and Pat Gross of Jefferson and Vicki and Cal Tjeerdsma of Tyndall, S.D.; two sons and their wives, Ron and Gloria of Rapids City, S.D., and Rick and Sue of Salix, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorraine Hamilton.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris, Mike, Tony and Aaron Gross, Ryan Tjeerdsma and Jeff Riherd.
