He held this position from 1930 to his retirement in 1954. There is an amusing story that was passed around the family. Ed frequently went through Chillicothe, Missouri on his route and strove to stop there as often as he could. Chillicothe had a little restaurant which served Irish Stew and he loved it from the very first time he ordered it. It was always delicious and he always ate it every chance he got. After many years of enjoying it he made the mistake of asking how it was made. Typical of most westerners, he did not eat lamb. Unfortunately he was told that the stew was made from beef and lamb. He never went back.

When he visited his daughter, Marion, which he did frequently, many times she served lamb at her table but she always fixed him a steak. She did, however, serve his rice topped with the lamb gravy, which was scrumptious, and he often asked for more. At one time he was asked why he would not eat the lamb but would eat the gravy from it. Once again, he never ate the rice again. Parents: James Kervin and Anna McCarthy.
