Bob Rogers was a very remarkable and successful person. During World War II he flew as a Bombardier/Navigator on both the B-17 Flying Fortress and the B-24 Liberator. He was stationed in England and flew many missions over Europe to attack the Germans, especially over Nazi Germany. He received a shrapnel wound in an embarrassing part of his body so he did not talk much about his Purple Heart.

After leaving the Army Air Force, Bob began his civilian life with John Morrell & Company, a large meat packing company with a large slaughter house and packing plant in Ottumwa, Iowa. After thirteen years in various sales and management postions with Morrell, he joined Armour & Company in Chicago and held important assignments there rising to General Manager of a major division. He then joined Boyle Midway, Inc., a division of American Home Products Co. Bob spent nearly six years there in various marketing and manufacturing positions and rose to the position of Vice President of Operations with six manufacturing plants under his administration. Boyle Midway is a major manufacturer of chemical products. Later Bob became President of the Tabby Cat Food Company, a major subsidiary of Thos. J. Lipton, Inc. of New Jersey after which he served for six years as President of The Jim Dandy Company of Birmingham, Alabama and Vice President of Savannah Foods and Industries, Inc. of Savannah, Georgia. He and Irene bought their final home in Birmingham and, upon his retirement with Jim Dandy, Bob started Bob Rogers Marketing until a stroke forced him to semi-retire. He and his family then bought the Ad Shop, a large and successful printing business. He worked with expanding the Ad Shop and adding large multi-color presses until the time of his death.

Bob loved animals and had several. He loved to walk with the big ones in the afternoon. Despite the fact that he did not have a college degree, Bob had more experience and self-education than most anyone would ever accumulate, even with a Doctorate. He read avidly, studied and listened and accumulated a remarkable amount of knowledge. He was a wonderful person to sit and talk with. He was a little disrespectful and would not have been able to live with the new sexual harassment laws, since he made suggestive remarks frequently and let a few crude words out without regard to where he was. He was a true free spirit with remarkable talent to take on a task and complete it. He was irrespectfully, but truly, a religious man.

Bob had back surgery while with Tabby Cat Food, following which he prescribed for himself a demanding fitness regimen. He kept himself in shape and faithfully did exercises to keep his trim and muscular frame. Despite this he loved to smoke, mostly a pipe, and enjoyed a toddy now and then. Parents: Glenn R.
