In 1939 he attended a party at the Barn, an old barn on the Brent property at West Jackson Street between Baylen Street and Spring Street, which was converted into a Club which catered to Naval Officers from the Navy Yard, later the Naval Air Station. George had the same name and bore a very strong resemblance to the actor, George Brent, who was in Pensacola for filming of a movie. The party was in their honor. The compiler of this book, along with several others in the neighborhood, sat on the back fence where the garden party took place. He saw George Brent, the actor, with George Brent, the dapper Pensacolian, talking to each other for some time. Their attention wandered quickly to Olivia de Havilland and John Payne, also prominent actors of the time. bullet Margaret Brent was born about 1601 in Gloustershire, England. Born to a gentry family, she was Cecil Calvert's cousin. She immigrated to Maryland in 1639, as a thirty-eight year old spinster, with her sister Mary (? - 1658) to join brothers Fulke (? - 1656) and Giles (1600 - ca. 1672), who were soon to be very influential in Maryland affairs. Margaret and Mary patented 'Sisters Freehold' near St. Mary's City upon arrival and soon became dominant and wealthy planters. As Leonard Calvert's executrix, she administered his estate and performed essential government services at a crucial time for the colony. On 24 June 1648, she petitioned the assembly for a sear and two votes -- one as Calvert's agent and the second as a landowner -- but she was denied admission to the legislature, even though her male contemporaries praised her abilities. Often called the 'first suffragette,' Margaret removed to the Northern Neck of Virginia in the 1650s and established yet another large and thriving plantation, called 'Peace. She She died, unmarried, in 1671.

She died in 1671 in "Peace" (home), Westmoreland Cty, Virginia. Died a spinster. She appears to have been a very capable business woman, not only in the management of her own and her sister Mary's affairs, but as executrix of the deceased governor, Leonard Calvert, and as the agent and representative on behalf of her brother Captain Giles Brent. Her name appeared in the Judicial and Testamentary Business of the Provincial Court alone no less than 124 times from 1642 to 1650. Her colorful life is part of the history of the State of Maryland. Data on her is too voluminous to include in this Genealogy. She arrived at St. Mary's on the ship Elizabeth Nov 22 1638 with letters from Cecelius Calvert, the second Lord Baltimore, with letters granting her land which form a large part of her story and which show her persistence and determination.
