9. John SCHETTLER was
born in 1878 in Breda, Iowa. He died on 9 Sep 1956 in Wilmont, Minn Nobles
County. John died at Slayton Memorial Hospital. With complications with diabetes
and his heart.
He resided in Wilmont, Minn Nobles County. John Schettler married Augusta
Schafer and spent all their married life in the Wilmont, MN area. Their children
are Josephine (Mrs. Al Winter) Fulda, Christina (Mrs. John Kobberman, deceased),
August - Wilmont, Raymon - Worthington, Mildred - Worthington, Elizabeth "Betty"
(Mrs. Louis Rasche) Bovey, MN, Lucille (Mrs. Ed Winter) Alexandria, MN, Teresa
(Mrs. Emil Johanning) Kokomo, IND, Edwin - Wilmont, August (Mrs. Leonard Biren)
Iona, Margaret (Mrs. Raymond Pauline) Alexandria, MN and Mary Ann (Mrs. Paul
Platt) Iona.
John and Augusta settled on his Bloom township farm east of Wilmont where all
their 12 children were born and reared. They also made a home for her niece,
Catherine (Sturm) Vaske, age 3, who come to live with them. After the death
of her mother, she continued to live with the family until her mother, she continued
to live with the family until her marriage and was loved by all us .
Dad (John) become a diabetic in early 1938 but had to tests until May 27, 1938.
He died at the Slayton Memorial Hospital on Sept. 8, 1956 of complications with
diabetes and his heart.
Mom (Augusta) developed colon cancer was treated at St. Mary’s Hospital
in Rochester. She had one year of fairly good health but in the fall 1953 she
became ill again. She passed away at the Slayton Hospital on Feb. 5, 1954.
Mom and Dad were buried in Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery at Wilmont, MN.
He was married to Augusta SCHAFER (daughter of August
SCHAFER (SR.) and Katherine Wester SCHAFER) on 19 Oct 1910.
John SCHETTLER and Augusta SCHAFER had the following children:
