 Includes NotesNotes for Margaret Peters:
Margaret Peters, along with her twin sister, Magdalene Peters, were born in the home of parents Peter Peters and Barbara Biersdorf near Faribault, MN, USA. Margaret and Magdalene were welcomed into the world by your proud parents, and older sister, Marie, and two brothers, Al and John. Margaret and Magdalene spent the first few years of their lives on the farm near Faribault, MN.

In 1904, Peter and Barbara packed up their belongings and their five children and headed for North Dakota, where they settled on a farm near Cogswell, ND, USA. While in North Dakota, three more children were added to the Peters family: Leo, Catherine, and Barbara.

According to Catherine Peters, the twins (Margaret and Magdaline Peters) always played together, and Catherine often felt left out. Catherine also remembered that the folks said that after we were hailed out and then dried out (in North Dakota), they decided to move back to Minnesota once again. "Actually, if Pa would have had his way, we would have moved to Canada, but Ma was tired of all the moving and we decided to go back to Minnesota where they bought a farm South of Spring Hill."

Margaret Peters Weidner remembers "We went with our mother from North Dakota to Minnesota on the train. We stopped at St Paul where Aunt Mary and Aunt Kate were...they treated us so nice. They had a great big bowl of candy and bananas and oranges--everything we didn't get. Uncle Tom passed it around and said, 'Eat! Eat!' We did, too!"

Margaret Peters Weidner's also remembers when she stayed overnight once. "The Casey girls told us we could stay. So right after school we went over there. They had these big bars of chocolate that you put in cake. We ate it for candy...and I was so sick that night. But they didn't take me home 'til the next morning. See, they didn't have a car."

The Peters twins enjoyed school at the little country school near Spring Hill, MN. Their mother, Barbara, sewed "look alike" dresses for them and one of their favorites was the twin sailor dresses they wore in a school play.

Dances, sleigh riding, and quilting bees were among the types of entertainment the girls enjoyed in those days.

Margaret Peters met her future husband at a dance. She went to a dance in Spring Hill, MN with a local swain, was introduced to Rob Weidner there, and before the evening was over, she decided to let Rob take her home.

That was the beginning of a courtship which led to the altar on August 28, 1923. Rob was the storekeeper in Regal and they moved into their home there. Margaret helped out in the store whenever she could.

Both Margaret and Rob, as well as Magdalene and Norbert, lived in Regal, MN and were very close knit and enjoyed doing things together. There were dances in the Regal Hall, excitement rose when the "Medicine Shows" came to town, the baseball team entertained the local residents every Sunday afternoon in the summer, the school was famous for its music, Christmas programs, and other performances, and friends and neighbors got together regularly to visit and play cards.

Margaret, along with Magdalene, were very close to their church and helped out whenever they were needed. They were Charter Members of St. Anthony's Church in Regal, Minnesota, which was built in 1933.

In the early 1940s the Regal Store became rental property when Rob Weidner took a job in his brother's implement shop. In 1957, the renters moved and the twins decided to make a go of the grocery store together. Prior to this, the Post Office was operated out of Norbert and Magdalene Kemper's home, but now the post office was moved into the store building. In 1971, at the age of 70, Magdalene retired as Postmistress of Regal. Margaret was sworn in as the new postmistress and held that position until 1980 when she retired. The post office closed with her retirement.

Margaret Peters Weidner died on January 30, 1988, and she is buried at the cemetary just outside of Regal, Minnesota, USA.
