Johan Hermann Schleper (b. June 28, 1821, d. December 16, 1905)

Johan Hermann Schleper (son of Johan Herman Schleper and Anna Catharine Flint)⁵⁷ was born June 28, 1821 in Ahmsen (Hanover Provence), Germany, and died December 16, 1905 in Richmond, MN, USA. He married Regina Maria Helena Behnen on January 07, 1851, daughter of Tobias Behnen and Agatha Loxen.

Johan Hermann Schleper (or Hermann Schleper), along with his wife, Regina Maria Helena Behnen, and son Tobias, moved from Calhoune County, Illinois to Richmond, MN in 1857.

According to the "Der Nordstern" on December 22, 1905 (translated from German):

"Hermann Schleper, Sr. who quietly and in the grace of God died on Saturday, was carried to his grave here on Tuesday.

"The funeral which was preceded by a Mass for the Dead, celebrated by the Rev. Ignaz, O.S.B., was attended by many people.

"The deceased was born 84 years ago in Ahnsen, Province Hannover, Germany. In 1850 he emigrated with his wife and children to America and settled first in the State of Illinois. In 1857 they went on to Minnesota and made their home on a farm only 1 mile north of here, where Mr. Schleper's wife preceded him in death already in 1893. Since then he has lived with his son Gerhard on the old homestead.

"Grieving for the loss of a good father are, aside from Gerhard, also Hermann Jr. of Torah and Mrs. Helena Kater from the town of Augusta.

"The entire community is saddened by the loss of a true and upright German soul, who, whereever he showed up, was a welcome guest. The St. Joseph's society for men of which Mr. Schleper was a long-standing and loyal member, attended the funeral "in corpore".

"May the good old father Schleper rest in peace."
