Regina Maria Helena Behnen (daughter of Tobias Behnen and Agatha Loxen) was born October 26, 1824 in Huven, Greis Sogel (Hanover Provence), Germany, and died 1892 in Richmond, MN, USA. She married Johan Hermann Schleper on January 07, 1851, son of Johan Herman Schleper and Anna Catharine Flint.

According to Rosie Torborg, Maria Helena Behnen was born October 03, 1825 and died May 04, 1895. However, this does not make sense.

According to "Der Nordstern" on November 10, 1892:

"Last Friday evening at about 11:30 Mrs. Maria Helena Schleper died after several weeks of sickness aggravated by old age. She died quietly and resigned to God's will after receiving the last sacraments. She was 68 years old.

"Her husband, Hermann Schleper, four grown children, and many relatives and neighbors knelt saddend and praying at her bedside. The deceased was born in Huven, county of Sogel in the province of Hannover. She emigrated to America in the year 1850, lived first in the State of Illinois for about seven years, and then for 35 years in Richmond. She and her family were some of the first settlers in Stearns County, and they have seen hard times.

"Up to her last moment she was a good and loyal wife to her husband, a loving mother to her children. In the bosom of her family, for which she cared selflessly, she developed her religious life and had very little to do with the outside world, which consequently did not see much of her. Would that all mothers could follow her example and try not to become known too much to the world outside their family.

"There was a big turn-out for her funeral on Monday in spite of the stormy weather. Almost all the members of the St. Annes womens society to which Mrs. Schleper belonged, were present to pay their respect; also many from near and far.

"After a solemn requiem mass, celebrated by the Rev. Father Ignatius, the remains of the deceased were buried in the womb of the cool earth, accompanied by prayer and song.

"May she rest in peace!
