Nellie Underwood was on the orphan train from New York. She may (or may not) be adopted. She did live with the Weidner's.

According to Walter Weidner, in his writings about the past in 1977, "Nellie was also an orphan and many people thought she was our sister as she came to our house when she was very young…and she always went by the name of Nellie Weidner. Later when he was about 21 years old, she left home and went to work in St. Cloud. She married Frank Breitbach and went out to Circle, Montana and lived there for many years.

When my father died, we were wondering if Nellie was every adopted. My mother could not remember as she was quite old, so we had an attorney check into this. If she was adopted, she would be entitled to some of the estate…which wasn’t so much, but she would be entitled to it. The attorney said there was no record of her being adopted. However, we 4 boys each sent her $1000.00 or a total of $4000.00 as we felt she was entitled to that. $4000.00 does not seem much today, but it was at that time…almost like $20,000 today. We felt she was entitled to this as she always worked hard when she lived at our place."
