My husband William Frederick Schaefer is the son of William Andrew Schaefer who was 1 of 11 children of Johann and Lisetta who came to the US from Bavaria, Germany through the port of Baltimore in either May or June of 1888 and settled in So. St. Paul, MN.
Johann Friedrich Schaefer was born in Thurnhofen, Feuchtwangen, Bavaria, Germany on April 16, 1841 and died in So. St.Paul, MN in May 1916. He was the son of Georg Michael and Maria Barbara Schaefer.
Lisetta Babette Hornung was born in Geslau, Bavaria, Germany om April 10, 1852 and died in So. St. Paul, MN on February 12, 1912.
She was the daughter of Georg Andreas Hornung and Margarethe Helenschmidt von Rothenburg(1834-1902) both of Bavaria, Germany.
Johann and Lisetta were married on June 3, 1879
They had the following Children:
Johann Sebastian (Barstol) born June 28,1879 in Bavaria.
Frederick Sebastian born July 20, 1880 in Bavaria. Married Cora Usher
Katherine Margaret born and died in Bavaria 1881.
Margaret Mary born October 23, 1882 in Yochsburg, Bavaria. Married Willam Gundlach.
Mary Magdalene born 1884 in Bavaria. Married George Gold.
Barbara Margaret born 1886 in Bavaria. Married a Beedy (don't know his first name).
Anna Lydia born Jan 1888 in Bavaria. Married Paul Albu.
Emma Lisetta born 1890 in So. St. Paul, MN. Married George Pagenkopf.
Emily born 1891 in So. St. Paul MN. Married a Larson and a Stein after she was widowed.
William Andrew Schaefer born November 30.1894 in So. St. Paul, MN. Married Hazel Fay Harris 1922. Died on March 1, 1980 in Minnesota Veterans Home, Minneapolis, MN.
Karl Goldfried born in So. St. Paul, died at the age of 3 years.
Members of the family who were born in Bavaria were Naturalized US Citizens on January 23, 1897.
There are only four living Grandchildren of Johann & Lisetta. They are:
John Albu in Mendota Heights, MN
Donald Ernest Schaefer in Texas (somewhere near Dallas - Ft. Worth area).
William Frederick Schaefer in Deptford, NJ
Lloyd Clifton Schaefer in the Portland area of Oregon.
Some of this information comes from handwritten notes of William Andrew Schaefer and from the passbook of Johann Friedrich Schaefer from when he served in the Army of the Kingdom of Bavaria 1868-72.
Additional information came from conversations I had with Anna Lydia Albu when I lived with her 1967-68. We also obtained information from Carol Clark Gregory who is the Granddaughter of Margaret Mary Schaefer Gundlach. Carol has the diary of her grandmother which has a lot of family information.
I have copies of some Schaefer family pictures which were sent to me from our niece Janice Mae Teske and who had received them from Cheryl who is one of Frederick Sebastian's granddaughters. Some of you may already have copies of these but if you are interested in what we have we can send you copies.
