 Includes NotesNotes for John Schenk:
His will was made the same day as he died. His will was proved Dec 4, 1744. His executor was his brother, Michael Schenk Jr. In the 1720 tax list he was listed as a carpenter by trade. In the inventory made for his estate on Nov 5, 1744 it lists his carpenter tools. John patented 150 acres at Lancaster twp, June 4, 1734 on Conestoga Creek, next to Jacob Hochstetter (it was previously part of Jacob Hockstetter's land) and Peter Martin. In a deed for the land there was receipted the quit claim rent due from the date of the Commissioners for property warrant, 17 Feb 1718, paid by John Shank on 7 Apr 1734. Which means John may have been living on that land since 1718. John does not mention a son John in his will, but I believe he omits him because he already gave him his Manor Township land in 1741. John Warrated 197 acres in Manor Twnship 30 Jul 1741 as John Shank, and which 20 days later, his probable son John Shank "Jr." Patented it. On 11 Sep 1744, John gave his 150 acres by will to his sons, Michael and Christian. John also mentions his daughter Barbara in his will. He may have had other younger children that are not mentioned in his will. John's wife's name is not known at this time. He appears on the tax list for Conestoga (later Lancaster Co.) in 1718. He was a tax collector for the County of Lancaster, 7 Feb 1739.
