The Moger family moved to Hastings, Nebraska, shortly after Thelma was born. Mr. Moger was a mason by trade, worked mostly as a brick layer. The Moger family came to Brown County in the spring of 1907. filed on 640 acres of land located in southern Brown County, 42 miles southwest of Ainsworth and 30 miles north of Dunning (1/2 Sec. 25 Twp. 25 Rge. 24, 1/2 Sec. 30 Twp. 25 Rge. 23).

On May 3, 1920 lightening struck the Valley View Schoolhouse in District 52. Those who were in the school house were Lucy, Ruby and Ruth Moger; Margaret, Angie and Ruth Taylor; Lydia Mae and Wilma Fetherston; Roland Burke and teacher, Mary Stinnard. Ruby Moger and Ruth Taylor, both about eight years old were killed and the others injured.
On August 3, 1921, lightening struck the Moger house and store building and burned it to the ground. After this time, the Mogers left the sandhills and moved to York County where the family grew up with a better opportunity for schooling.

On February 19, 1985, Lewis W. Crooker married Lydia Giles, daugher of George Giles (The Giles Post Office was named for George Giles). Their children were Irene, Anna, Richard, Timothy and Claude. The Crooker and Moger families grew up as neighbors and on July 2, 1919, Thelma Moger married Timothy Crooker.
