Actual text of William Neal's will:
State of Georgia ) I William Neal of the state and Franklin County )County aforesaid,weak in body but of a mind capable, knowing thatit is once appointed for all men to die, and believing the hour of my departureis at hand, being blefsed with a little of the goods of this world, it is naturalI should desire to make some distribution of them, do make and ordain this mylast will and testament verbally.
First, I am on a trade for a certain piece of land, I do not know that it can be effected, but if it can I want you ( Thomas Bush Esqr.) to purchase it ,I have nearly enough money to pay for it, the balance you must raise out of the present crop if you can, if not you must raise it the best way you can.
Secondly, I wish all my property to remain as it is now is in the pofsefsion of my
wife Lavinia, for
the purpose of providing for, raising and supporting my children-
Thirdly I wish my son Thomas Anderson to have given him a good, liberal
education-
Fourthly When my oldest child comes of age, I wish all my negroes to be equally
divided among my heirs ( viz) my wife Lavinia, my daughters Arminda, Ann
Elizabeth, Lucinda Clementine- Eliza Kiziah, my son Thomas Anderson, and
Harriett Tabitha, and give her (Arminda A E ) her part, I wish the balance
of my property [alittle] to remain as above directed for the above purpose
until the [nesct] shall come of age, when she is to have her part, and like manner
until the youngest gets her part.
Fifth, I herby constitute and appoint Thomas Bush my lawfull
Executor- subscribed by us 9 April 1835.

Court of Ordinary May Term 1835. We the Subscribing witnefses do solemnly swear
that the foregoing will contains in substance the words and [iscfsefsions] of William Neal
the maker of the foregoing will, and that they were spoken in the time of his sicknefs
and a few days before his death, and at his usual place of residence in Franklin County,
and that we were particularly required by the decÂ’d to bear witnefs to the words and
sayings, and that P. William Neal departed this life on Saturday night the 4th Instant,
and subscribed by us this 9th April 1835. And sworn to + subscribed in open court the
4th May 1835.
