Notes for Reginald Joseph Byrne:
+ Marcia reported that her father was seen by her, and the community, as a caring person who always was helping someone. Worked at Norco, the north coast's dairy/butter factory.
During their married life money was "tight" but they lived well with basic necessities of life, in a happy family environment.Reg had a good relationship with his wife. Loved greyhounds and trained them.
The most remembered one by his daughter Marcia was "The Arab" who was almost human in his ways. Reg also loved to bet and was involved in the illegal, but widely practiced, off-course betting [even being raided by the police on one occasion]. If he was successful with his betting, or won a race, he would use his winnings to bring the family treats or gifts of money. The family left Bangalow for Lismore in the early 1940's His funral was reported in the Lismore newspaper, "The Northern Star" as one of the biggest Lismore had seen.
I remember him as the one who, on Christmas morning, would be the first up and who would "run" through the house to let the grandchildren know that Santa has been. Marcia said that when she was growing up she and Maureen, had a job at the corner shop as well as taking in ironing. Her father was very supportive of his children. There is also a story of Reg, during the 1945 flood that entered their Union St. home, becoming very angry with his brother Jim who arrived while breakfast was being made to demand a hot breakfast. The only problem was that breakfast was being prepared in a house with water still up above the ankles.
The day I was born, my mother had a stroke and almost died. Reg was heartbroken and cried his heart out as he didn't want to see his sweet daughter suffer. WSheppard 5.12.1999

More About Reginald Joseph Byrne:

Religion: member of the Catholic Church

  Notes for Johanna Elizabeth Jackson:
+ nickname "Blue""
+ Birth certificate states that her name was "Johanna Elizabeth Jackson". The family knew her as Elizabeth. WSheppard 30.5.99
+ Loved her family and being the housemaker. Cooking scones and sponges a speciality. Loved hats and always looked nice in them. Was a regular churchgoer. Loved dogs, especially greyhounds. Had a very good marriage. After Reg's death she just pined away and never really overcome her grief. WSheppard 5.12.1999
