      8. Randolph St Clair Sheppard, born March 31, 1861 in Tomki, near Casino, NSW; died May 31, 1932 in Casino, NSW. He was the son of 16. Samuel Shepherd and 17. Mary Ann Dare. He married 9. Margaret Caroline Johnson July 16, 1883 in Casino, NSW.

      9. Margaret Caroline Johnson, born Abt. 1864 in Shoalhaven, NSW; died January 4, 1936 in Casino, NSW. She was the daughter of 18. William Martin Johnson and 19. Sidney Irvine.

Notes for Randolph St Clair Sheppard:

"Randolph died around 1932 when he was 73 years old. He believed in strict discipline, being a good, but strict man. He was a carpenter, orchardist, bee keeper and had an association with the local aborigines who often visited him." (source Nanna 25/12/1977)

"He died in Casino about 1930 when I was about seven years old. The only thing I know about him was that he was one of the early settlers in the area when cedar cutting was at its height on the Richmond River early in 1900 and also he was a carpenter who helped build a lot of the early homes around Casino. My father Leslie Sheppard was also a carpenter following his father's trade. The house that they built in Casino eventually as their home is in Wrangaree Street and is still standing. This is the home that the Bank foreclosed on my father during the early 1930's because the mortgage couldn't be paid...money borrowed from the Bank to keep us children when Dad could not get work during the Depression. This foreclosure eventually caused us children to be put in the Cowper Orphanage (on the Clarence River) for nearly two years, during which time Dad died of Kidney disease." (source Dad, 22/6/1977)

Other family information suggest that William's wife left him and travelled to Australia to begin a new life. One suggestion for this has been that he had "interferred-with" his daughters.

Notes for Oswald Joseph Byrne:
+No official birth record found so far, but there appears to be a mistake in the records. A child born to William P Byrne and Julia I Byrnes in 1867 is registered as "husband P". I am assuming this is the missing birth record. Records listed earlier then this are only valid if this "guess" is correct. WSheppard 4.4.1999
+ Birth certificate doesn't confirm that Oswald's birth is as stated. Certificate says: "Husband Joseph" as name of child. New information is that it confirms William and Julia's marriage date and gives Julia's birthplace. WSheppard 21.5.1999
+ Oswald's death certificate (20th November 1939) names his parents as William Byrne and Julia Cable, that he was 69 years old and that he married Mary Ellen Maher in Taree at the age of 21. These facts make the assumption that "Husband Joseph", born on March 20th, 1867 is in fact Oswald Joseph Byrne a very reasonable "leap of faith". This certificate names his mother as Julia Isabella Kable and confirms other information such as William and Julia's marriage date. WSheppard 26.7.1999
+In conversation with my aunt, Marcia Byrne, not much information was gleened. He was a man who wore a moustache and often gave Marcia, and the other grandchildren, rides on his horse and sulkie. WSheppard 5.12.1999
+ Reported by phone by Merilyn Lewis that his registered name was Osborne, not Oswald. WSheppard 10.3.2000
