Obie Lee Yeargin (son of James Thomas Yeargin and Susan Rebecca Moon)^{17, 17} was born August 14, 1912 in Elberton, Elbert, Ga, USA^{17, 17}, and died April 12, 1987 in Monroe, NC. He married Lilla Mae Smith, daughter of Henry Van Smith and Emma Jane Tiller.

Papaw Yeargin was so gentle and kind from the age I could remember until his death. Soft spoken and loved the Lord. He was a Baptist Minister for many years. He was my mentor. Several days before he died, my grandmaw said that he sat up in his bed and asked for his Bible. He preached a sermon just as if he was in the pulpit. My grandmaw was his audience. After that, he went into a coma. I was called at my home in Conyers, Ga. where we had moved to in 1986 for Don to Pastor Mt. Olive Baptist Church. I got to Monroe as fast as I could. He died a few days later. Funeral services was held at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church on the NC/SC border. One of his favorite songs was In The Garden. Don & I sung that song in his honer that day.
