Notes for JAMES J
. BRASEL:
From "The New OZARK COUSINS" by Bud Phillips, 1984:
...This early Brasel settler [John] had a son, James Brasel, born in Kentucky about 1811. This James Brasel married Persilla Sweazea (some spell it Swazey-Sweazey, etc.) A census listing made October 4, 1850, lists this couple in District 16 of Jackson County, Tennessee.
...Later James and Persilla Sweazea Brasel moved westward. It is thought that James died in Illinois in 1854 (some say his death occurred in Southeast Missouri).

Other research indicates that James Brasel was born in White County, Tennessee.

ERSILLA SWEAZEA:
From "The New OZARK COUSINS" by Bud Phillips, 1984:
...[after the death of her husband] His widow and other family members seem to have somewhere joined in with the Phillips and other families on their way to North Arkansas, in late 1859 and early 1860. In the Ozarks of Arkansas, the Brasels settled somewhere in the vicinity of present Deer in Newton County. The widow died there on November 22, 1867 and is buried on the Clyde Atkinson farm at Deer.
