15 Feb 1866 at Austin, TX.

Ranssalear's marriage to Maria was the 2nd one recorded since the establishment of the Sumner Township.

Original Civil War pension request in 1885 discribed Ranssalear as 59 years old, 5' 5-1/2" tall, 148 lbs, grey hair and blue eyes. Pension rejected or denied in Nov 1885 and again in 1891. He was living in Chicago in 1885 but by 1890 was living in Fulton, Laudrdale Co, TN according to Pension request application filed in that year.

Most likely the family embarked at the port of Plymouth which was the closest
major port to their former home. Family tradition relates that smallpox broke
out during the voyage and that some of daughter Lillian's blood was used to
produce a vaccine since she recently had the disease. On arrival Thomas was
forced by immigration authorities to chose one of his many last names and he
chose Mitchell.

Family eventually arrived in Gennesse County, Michigan. The family was poor
so Lillian was sent to live and work with other families to earn her basic
necessities. Parents: Thomas Alberta Kemp MITCHELL and Lizzie SMITH.
