He was mustered out of service on 13 June 1865 at Memphis, TN, 8 mo before his brother Samuel B and brother -in-law, Renssellear Metcalf. He died on 13 Sep 1906 in Cement, Caddo Co, OK. Liberty Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Row 34, Grave 18 Military records say that Jesse Palmer was born in Middlefield, Otsego Co., NY. He was next fournd in Le Ray, Jefferson Co, NY where he was deeded land on 13 Nov 1827 from Isaac Palmer. He was also deeded land on 10 Dec 1827 and on 3 April 1829. Later on 27 Oct 1829 Jesse, Sophia, and Martha Palmer were deeded land in Le Ray, NY. At this time we don't know the relationship of Martha Palmer (poss. Maria??)

In 1834 Jesse, Sophia and their first two children moved west to Liberty Twp., St. Joseph Co, IN. Jesse was one ofthe first four settlers in the twp. St. Joseph Co land records show that Jesse sold land on 6 Feb 1841, bought land on 17 Dec 1842, and 24 Nov 1843 and sold land on 4 Aug 1846. After Sophia died in 1852, and son John died in 1853, Jesse and his remaining five children moved west again in Aug 1856 to Indenpendence, Buchanan Co, IA.

On 1 Sep 1862 sons James, Samual, and Jarod enlised in Co.D, 1st Iowa Cavalry Regement. After son Jard died in 1863, Jesse returned to North Liberty, IN with his 3rd wife, Polly and on 5 dec 1863 he enlisted in Co.C 128 Indiana Infantry Regement at Walkerton, IN. At the time of his enlistment he gave his age as 44(not correct), 5ft 1in., with dark eyes, gray hair and light complexion. Up to April, 1864 he was listed as an ambulance driver at Charlesboro, TN. On 14 Oct 1864 he was transfered to USA General Hospital, Jefferson, IN. On 3 Nov 1864 he was furloughted as a convalecent and returned to North Liberty, IN and died of complication on 15 Feb 1865. Parents: ELIAS PALMER and Rebecca (PALMER).

He was married to Sophia (PALMER) about 1827 in LeRay, Jefferson Co, NY. Children were: Cornelia Ann PALMER, John PALMER, James H PALMER, Samuel B PALMER, MARIA PALMER, Jerod C PALMER.

After Samual Brooks died, she married Evan Chalfant on 10 Jan 1850. Evan Chalfan granted her a divorce on 7 Mar 1853. In Aug 1856, Maria moved to Independence, Buchanan Co, Iowa, possibly the same time as Jesse. In 1871 she moved again to California where she died in Rio Dell, CA in 1898. Samuel B Palmer of Rulo was visiting his daughter Mrs. Burbanks in Nebraska City when he was taken sick and died on Sunday. The remains were brought here for burial. He was a soldier in the Civil War and was a kind father and loving husband and a useful citizen. Rev. James of Omaha preached the funeral sermon. He was born July 10, 1836 in Layport, Indiana. Married to Isabel Harding, Jan. 1, 1861, to his union was born eight children all of whom are living. Three daughters live at Nebraska City; Mrs. IR Burbank, Mrs. J.W. Stanley and Mrs. Robt. Burns. Mrs. J.W. Kelly, Mrs. H. Roberts, Walter, Frank and Jesse of Rulo. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Samuel B Palmer enlisted in Co. D 1 st Iowa Cavalry along with his brothers James H and Jarod C on 1 Sept 1862 at Independence, Iowa. He was Mustered into service on 30 Sept 1862 at Davenport, Iowa, providing his own horse saddle. He was shown as being 28 years old, 5 ft 8 in. tall with brown hair, black eyes and fair complexion. His regiment moved from MO to AR to TN to LA and TX. He reinlisted for a second 3 year term on 5 Jam 1864 at Little Rock, AR. On the march from LA to Austin, TX he was under the command of General George A Custer. He was mustered out of service on 15 Feb 1866 at Austin, TX.

His original Military pension request of 5 July 1890 discribed Samuel B as 54 years old, 5 ft. 8 in. tall with light hair, black eyes, and fair complexion. On 26 May, 1891 he was granted a $12 per month pension retroactive to 9 July 1890.

Other infromation given in his pension file are his date of birth and of death, the names of his wife and the names and dates of birth of his children. Parents: JESSE PALMER and Sophia (PALMER) .

She was married to Samuel MILLS in 1659. In the Boston News Letter (N.E. Vol.14, p.106) it states that Susanna (Palmer) Mills, and Samual Mills had 16 children and the last was born when she was 51 years old. Only 3 of the 16 are known at this time.

bullet Lieutenant William PALMER Sr.(231) was born between 1610 and 1615 in London, England. He died about 1660 in Middleboro, NY. The earliest history of this family begins with William Palmer who is first found in America in the Plymouth Colony, Mass. records where it is recorded that on Jan. 7, 1638 at a Court of Assistants for that Colony, and on Sept. 3, 1639, he was "propounded to be free at the next court as an inhabitant of Yarmouth Mass., and on Sept. 1, 1640 he was admitted a freeman and took the oath (from the Records of Colony of New Plymouth Mass. Vol. 1, pp.108,132, 161)

Yarmouth, Mass. as granted by the Plymouth Court as a settlement at this time and William Palmer was among the first persons to take up residence there in the early part of 1639. Yarmouth is located on Cape Cod in about the center of the Cape, just east of Barnstable, Mass.

On Sept. 27, 1642 he was made Lieutenant by the Court at Plymouth. The Court on that date ordered that the company against the Indieans should have Miles Stanish as Captain and William Palmer as Lieutenant.. (Plymouth Colony Rec. Vol.11, p.65 & p. 88).

In 1652 a company of English from various places in Mass. and Conn. arrived in Newtown, L.I, N.Y. and made a settlement there under the jurisdiction ofthe Dutch in New Netherlands. This settlement was originally calledf Middleboro until 1665 when the name was shanged to Newtown. This settlement is now in the Borough of Queens, NY. It was located between Long Island City and Jamaica, N.Y. Amoung these English settlers was Lieut. William Palmer. He died in Middleboro abt 1660.
