bullet JONATHAN RENO(43) was born on 30 Sep 1780 in Washington Co, TN. According to Susie Lewis Struckhoff, was born in Shenandoah, Frederic Co, Virginia Colony. He died on 11 Feb 1838 in Springfield, Greene Co, MO. According to Guy Reno, Jonathan and Sarah left Carter Co. between 1800 and 1811 and moved to Jackson Co., TN, perhaps by way of nearby Albany (Cumberland Co., now Clinton Co., KY), where his father Charles and brother John had moved from Carter Co. about 1799. Jonathan was commissioned as a captain in the 18th regiment of the Tennessee Militia on
June 13, 1811 (Tennessee Historical Quarterly, June 1946, p. 186; research by Roger Reno). In 1825 Jonathan and his family moved from Tennessee by ox team to Schuyler Co., Illinois and settled on north bluffs of Illinois River overlooking present-day Beardstown. He was the 4th or 5th white man to arrive in the county (Guy Reno ms. p. 97). Also arriving the same year from Jackson Co., possibly accompanying the Reno exodus, was the family of James Vance and Margaret Reno Vance and their 13 children (Roger Reno research). By 1830, the family moved to Fairfield, Iowa, and then to Springfield, Greene Co., MO and bought a small farm (Deed Book A, Greene Co., MO p. 193-194). Their son James, according to an 1850 census record, was born in Missouri about 1830. Five of their children remained in Schuyler Co.: Marima, Joseph, Charles, Jonathan Jr., and Andrew Jackson. In early 1838 Jonathan was stabbed in the throat and killed by Randolph Britt during a fight instigated by Lucius Roundtree, proprieter of a grocery store, who asked Reno to "clean out" Britt and others from a rival store (Roger Reno; History of Greene Co., MO, p. 189, 1883).

Johnathan and Sarah Reno, of French descent, emigrated from Tennessee to Missouri in an early day. Johnathan was killed i Springfield, Illinois by a drunken man. He was a cousin of the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith.

JONATHAN RENO, JR.

Jonathan, Senior, who had been a Captain in the Tennessee Militia during the War of 1812, was one of the 13 children of Charles (March 14, 1754 - August 4, 1828) and Alice Elizabeth (Tipton) Reno. Charles was one of twelve children born to John and Susanna (Thorn) Reno and John in turn was a son of Lewis Reno (Renno, Renoe), a French Protestant who became an English citizen in 1688 and who emigrated to Stratford, (now Prince William) County, Virginia, where in 1700 he bought 100 acres, now part of Quantico Marine Base, which was paid for by 2100 pounds of tobacco. The John Reno family left the Tidewater, settling first near Winchester, Virginia, then on Chartier ("Shirtee") Creek, south of Fort Pitt, (now Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania). After Susanna died in 1773, John took his family (except for the children of a deceased son, Benjamin, and his son Francis, who became the first Episcopal priest to serve West of the Alleghanies) southwestward, following the Appalachian valleys, to what is now the hills of eastern Tennessee and where both Jonathans were born.

The Reno's first home in Schuyler County (1825) was on the north bluff of the Illinois River overlooking Beard's Ferry (Beardstown). The family then moved, (Jonathan, Senior, reputedly moved whenever he could see smoke for a neighbor's chimney), to a location five miles northeast of Rushville, where his brother, Francis, aged 9, died (the first white person buried in Schuyler County).

Although, some of his children made roots int he Schuyler County, area, Jonathan and Sarah continued their emigrations, first to McDonough County, (Industry and Fandon), then to Fairfield, Iowa, and finally to Springfield, Missouri, where Jonathan, Senior was murdered. Sarah returned to Ridgeville and is buried there.

bullet Jonathan RENO Jr.(43) was born on 2 Nov 1811 in Jackson Co, TN. He died on 9 Nov 1884 in Schuyler Co, IL. He went to Schuyler Co., Illinois in 1825. He served in the 4th Regt. of the Illinois Mounted Volunteers during the Black Hawk War in 1832 and received a Bounty Land Warrant (No. 26119) for 120 acres of land in 1855. His widow Louisa received a pension for his military service, Pension Bur. File No. 703-205 (William L. Reno, 1975, ms.).

bullet JOSEPH RENO(43) (10) was born on 1 Nov 1807 in Carter or Jackson Co, TN. He died in 1876 in KS. Notes for JOSEPH RENO:
According to Ida Reno (ireno@tisd.net), Joseph and Sarah came to Lynn County, Kansas from Macomb, Ill. in the fall of 1865. They stayed three years, and moved to a farm twelve miles north of Fort Scott, Kansas. About 1891 they moved from Iola, in Allen Co., to Yates City, Kansas. He was a preacher and was a "circuit rider" for the United Brethren Church. Rev. Joseph Reno did much toward the establishment of that faith in those counties, and at his death in 1876, left the work in a healthy, encouraging condition. He was born in East Tennessee in 1807, and went to Illinois in the early settlement of that state. He secured an education that made his life a success, and at the outbreat of the Black Hawk War, 1834, he enlisted and served his state in quelling the disturbance. Although he was a self made man, few with his opportunities could have done more
in the cause of religion as a pioneer preacher than he. In politics he was a Republican, coming into that party from the Whigs. Joseph is listed in the 1830 census for Schuyler Co., Illinois.

From what we currently know of this family, per S.E. Fleenor's journal, Joseph married Sarah. Per the LDS Family History, International Genealogical Index, Joseph and Sarah married May 11, 1843, at Schuyler County, Illinois, film numbers 457973-457977.

With the above information, I am assuming that Joseph was married before and that Sarah was his second wife, however, it is possible for Sarah to be the mother of all these children.

The census records and data taken changed from 1840 to 1850, in 1840 only name the head of househould so it would be difficult to find the name of Joseph's wife. At this time I have yet to find "Joseph" in the 1840 census records, but find George Skiles in 1840 with a daughter of 20 and under 30 years old.
