HOUSE, 37th and 38th General Assemblies, 1871 - 75; reresenting Dickson County; HOUSE, 40th General Assembly, 1877 - 79; representing Dickson, Cheatham, and Houston counties; SENATE, 45th General Assembly, 1887 - 89; representing counties of Dickson, Hickman, Houston, and Humphreys; Democrat. Born at Charlotte, Dickson County, September 25, 1831; son of Daniel and Martha Norwood ( Rook ) Leech. Attended " common schools "; studied for ministry at Cumberland University, Lebanon, Wilson County, before Civil War; returned to same university after war to graduate from law school. Married first to Sarah Louise Lane of Arkadelpha, Arkansas; children -- Edward, Leonard, Daniel, Susan Virginia, Lenora Alice, Ransom Lane, Maggie May, Lizzie Blanch, Thomas Mulligan, and one child whose name has not been determined; following death of first wife. November 3, 1892, married a Mrs. Hall of White Bluff, Dickson County; no childern. Practiced law at Charlotte and was known as " a most spectacular and colorful criminal lawyer", Elected mayor of Charlotte, 1886; delegate to state Democratic convention, 1880. Enlisted as private in Co. B. , 49th Tennessee Infantry, November 29, 1861, at Dickson; captured at Fort Donelson February 16, 1862; sent as prisoner of war to Camp Douglas, Ill.; exchanged; elected 1st. Lt. , September 17, 1862; in letter from camp near Enterprise, Miss. , dated August 22, 1863, submitted " immediate and unconditional resignation " as 1st Lt. , Co. B. , 49th Tennessee Infantry and reguested a transfer as private to Captain Minor's company, Cox's Regiment, Forrest's Brigade; reasons given for request; " the misfortunes of war have reduced our Regt. to a mereskeleton and the company to which I belong has 4 commissioned officers and only 25 privated. I prefer being a private in the company above named where I have relatives and acquaintances than an officer without a command ... "; request approved by superior officers; further service records missing from file. Member Presbyterian Church. Died at White Bluff December 23, 1897; buried in family plot in Charlotte Cemetery. Father of Ransom L. Leech; grandfather of Jay Hardin Leech and Wilson Blake Leech, sometime members Tennessee General Assembly.

Born at Charlotte, Dickson County, June 15, 1859; son of Leonard Lane and Sarah Ann ( Hardin ) Leech. Extent of schooling not determined; studied law. Married October 31, 1881, to Louisa Leech, daughter of Daniel R. and Mary ( Mathis ) Leech; children -- Enolia May, William Jacob, John Hillman, Daniel Baxter, Mary Cornelia, Margaret, and Jay Hardin, Jr. Practiced law in Charlotte; removed to Nashville, Davidson County, c. 1895 to practice law until death. Justice of peace in Dickson County. Member Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Died in Davidson County March 22, 1900; buried in family plot, Charlotte Cemetery. Grandson of Jacob Leech; nephew of Ransom L. Leech; brother of WIlson Blake Leech, sometime members Tennesssee General Assembly.

SENATE, 52nd General Assembly, 1901 - 03; representing Dickson, Cheatham, Houston, and Stewart counties. Democrat. Born at Charlotte, Dickson County, July 31, 1869; son of Jacob W. and Sarah ( Lane ) Leech. Attended " common schools " and Tracy Academy, Charlotte; studied law and licensed to practice 1891. Married first to Alice Taylor, daughter of J.R. Taylor; children -- Robert Taylor, Sarah, Dudley, and Murray; second marriage, August 13, 1921, to Elizabeth May Wyatt, daughter of K.A. Wyatt; no children indicated. Began practice of law in Charlotte, moved to Dickson, Dickson County, 1899 and continued practice of criminal and corporation law; publisher Dickson County Press. Postmaster at Charlotte, 1893; circuit court clerk for term and half ending 1902; presidential elector, 1904 on Democratic ticket of Alton B. Parker and Henry G. Davis. Member Cumberland Presbyterian Church; Free and Accepted Masons; Knight of Pythias; Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Died at Dickson February 20, 1923; buried in Leech family graveyard, Charlotte. Son of Jacob W. Leech; uncle of Jay Hardin Leech and Wilson Blake Leech, sometime members Tennessee General Assembly.

HOUSE, 48th General Assembly, 1893 - 95; representing Dickson County; Democrat. Born at Charlotte, Dickson County, April 12, 1868; son of Leonard Lane and Sarah Ann ( Hardin ) Leech. Attended " common schools "; graduated, 1890, from Cumberland University Law School, Lebanon, Wilson County; after graduation made extended tour of Europe to study criminal procedure. Married December 5, 1900, to Beulah McLean, daughter of I. F. McLean; children -- Beulah McLean and Lorena Hardin. Practiced law at Dickson, Dickson County; professor of law in Dickson Normal College, president Dickson Bank and Trust Co., 1907; removed to Nashville, Davidson County, c. 1928; continued practice of law; engaged in extensive lumber business with father - law; director in Commerce Union Bank, Nashville, and First National Bank, McMinnville, Warren County. Attorney General 19th judicial circuit, 1894 until that judicial circuit was abolished by the legislature, 1899. Member Cumberland Presbyterian Church; Scottish Rite Mason, Knight Templar; Member Knights of Pythias, improved Order of Red Men; Alpha Tau Omege fraternity. Died at Nashville February 29, 1944; buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Grandson of Jacob W. Leech, brother of Jay Hardin Leech, nephew of Ransom Lane Leech, sometime members Tennessee General Assembly.
