She was married to John Bynum Byrd .(4) Children were: Minnie Lee Byrd.

bullet Sarah 'Sally' Chambers was born about 1797. Sally's birth date is derived from her age in the 1850 Census of Wilkes Co., in which she is listed as being 53 years old.

She appeared on the census in 1860 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. Sally was listed under her name "Sarah", and in addition to herself, her household consisted of Levi (28), Chambers (25), Nancy Kemp (46), Sally Kemp (19), William Kemp (18) and Adaline Sawyer (15).
She appeared on the census in 1870 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. She was living alone, next door to the family of Mathis and Emiline Kemp.
She died about 1871 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. Sally's exact death date is unknown, however she was listed in the 1870 census and her estate was settled in 1872. Lindsey Jarvis was her administrator. Equal portions of her estate were given to John N. Jarvis, Nancy Kemp, H. C. Jarvis, William Jarvis, Noah Jarvis, the heirs of W. Jarvis, and Lindsey Jarvis. Another portion was divided among grandchildren, including William Jarvis heirs, Lindsay Jarvis heirs, Decius Jarvis, Sarah Jarvis, James M. Jarvis, J. C. Jarvis, Caroline Jarvis, and Liddia Privett.
Sally suffered the misfortune to lose two of her sons to the Civil
War. Levi died April '63 at Richmond; Wilie died July '63 in Virginia.

Parents: John Chambers and Nancy "Ann" McBride.

She was married to John J. Jarvis on 19 Mar 1811 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. (85) James Jarvis (probably his brother, but possibly his father) was the bondsman. If John was born in 1787 as the 1850 census indicates, he would have been about 24 years old at the time of his marriage, which is a likely age.

An interesting story about John and his wife Sally was sent to me by Pauline Jarvis Clark, a descendent of John Jarvis, who currently lives in Wilkes Co. In her letter, she states "The legend is that Sally received permission from her parents to ride her horse to the Canadian border to marry John Jarvis, who was serving there in the Revolutionary War. She spent most of the summer on horseback." This interesting story handed down through the family may have its origins in the War of 1812, which was fought along the Canadian border and elsewhere. Perhaps Sally rode north to accompany her husband shortly after they were married. Since both wars were against the British, and John and Sally's marriage occured shortly before the War of 1812, it is entirely possible that the story is based on fact - albeit slightly changed in the retelling from generation to generation. Another possibility is that the applied to an earlier generation. There was a John Jarvis who fought as an officer in the Revolutionary War, and had a wife named Sally. The years involved would have been after James Jarvis Sr.'s birth, but John could have been an uncle, or it could have been John's second wife.

Children were: James Jarvis Jr., Nancy Jarvis, John Nelson Jarvis Esq., William M. JARVIS, Jane Jarvis, Noah Jarvis, Lindsey JARVIS, Wiley JARVIS, Levi Jarvis, Henry Chambers JARVIS.

(88) William sold his interests to his brother George Chambers for 25 dollars. The land consisted of "several tracts of land lying situated in Wilkes County and State of North Carolina on the waters of Little Hunting Creek one tract of which containing about 200 acres adjoining Richard Walker on the west side James Maybury on the east, north by the land of Robert Coleman decd and an other tract containing of about 60 acres adjoining James Jarvis on the west and James Rash and John Jarvis on the south and east by Daniel Rash ford and North by the old tract of James Chambers decd all of which land described from James Chambers decd late of Wilkes to the said William Chambers..."

He appeared on the census in 1860 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. (89) His household #1051 consisted of William Chambers (27), Rinda (27---this is Sarah M. (Mranday), Seth (1), Camanda (7), and Mary J. (1).

He was given a medical exam on 15 Oct 1864 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. (90) He died about 1900 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina.(8) (4) Family relatives in Wilkes Co., NC said he had a heart attack after crossing a fence by going up and over the steps that had been built at the crossing. William appears as a witness of his uncle John J. Jarvis' will.

According to her descendant, Ruthi Barth, he "was also a MOONSHINER. To many of the residents of Wilkesboro, "The One-Time Moonshine Capital of the World", moonshining was considered respectible although illegal. Many of the farmers in the hills could not raise enough corn to make it a profitable crop. They felt that the "flatlanders" had passed laws against moonshining just to hassle them."

On the 1860 Wilkes Co. census, William Chambers had $100 real estate and $50 in personal estate value. He later owned a much larger farm. He could not read or write. An interesting story about Will as told in 1977 by one of his grandsons goes as follows: One morning when Will came out to feed his stock, he noticed one of his hired hands standing by the grainery. After he fed the animals, he noticed the man was still standing there so he invited him in for some breakfast. The man declined and then told him that his hand was caught. Will then released the trap he had set for whoever had been stealing his corn and had no further problems with missing corn after that!
