(According to the 1850 census of Rush Co., Indiana, Charles would have been born in 1791, and ages derived from censuses frequently vary by a year when the person's birthday was during the summer). This also agrees with the earlier birthdates of the other two sons, James and John, which are known from 1850 census records. It also agrees with the 1800 census, which indicates 2 males over 10 and one male in the 0-9 year old bracket.

The sale is for "all of our interest in a certain tract or parcel of land situate as follows in the County of Wilkes on the waters of Hunting creek which descended to us by the death of our mother Barbary Howard which interest is one third part of one hundred and fifty nine acres whereon the said Barbary lived and died and bounded as follows on the east by the lands of Christopher Howard, on the north by the lands of John Coleman, on the west by the lands of Richard Walker, and on the south by the lands of John Brown Sr. and the said Richard Walker..."

Imlah Jarvis is apparently named after Imlah Ball, a neighbor who
became Charles' bother-in-law when he married Hannah Jarvis. Charles
and Imlah moved to Indiana with their families at about the same time.
Charles was probably named after his Grandfather, Charles Johnson. No
other Charles Jarvises have been found in the Wilkes Co. families.

She was born in Wilkes County, Oct. 7, 1898, to the Rev. Noah T. Jarvis and Nellie Mastin Jarvis. She was the widow of Joe Leland Mathis and was a member of Cranberry Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Irene Pardue of Ronda and Mrs. Mary Caudill of Jonesboro; two sons, Jarvis Mathis of Winston-Salem and Jimmy Mathis of Roaring River; two sisters, Mrs. Nell Walker of Elkin and Mrs. Sue Church of Moravian Falls; one brother, Noah Jarvis, Jr., of Route 2, Roaring River; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Briar Creek Baptist Church by the Rev, Alvin Johnson and the Rev. Virginia Brown; burial was in the church cemetery. She was buried in Briar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilkes Co., North Carolina.⁽³⁾ She had Social Security Number 241-06-1603. Parents: Rev Noah Thomas Jarvis and Nellie V. Mastin.
