He purchased 156 acres on 3 Nov 1830 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. (319) The land, purchased from Leonard Walker for $125, was described as "on the waters of Briar creek beginning on a pine near the big road in the line formerly called the Turnbully line running south with said line ninety five poles to a pine on the bank of the creek then south east thirty poles to a black oak then east eighty poles to a black oak then south to a red oak then east along the creek to a pine in Constant Gray's line then north along said line to a red oak then east one hundred and forty poles to a pine then north one hundred and twenty five poles to Howard Walker's corner near the big road then west along said line one hundred ninety two poles to the beginning."

He appeared on the census in 1860 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. William Jarvis is listed as a 56 year old resident of Wilkes Co. He is not found in the 1850 census. William's age places him as a probable son of the patriarch James Jarvis - he fits the age of one of Jame's sons in the early censuses. He is also living near other descendents and neighbors of James Jarvis. William's household in 1860 consists of Sarah (52), Caroline (26), James (24), Elizabeth (22), Jane (19), Thomas (15), Ruth (15), Constant (11), John (10), and Nancy (8). James is probably named for his father, as was customary, and Constant is probably named for his neighbor Constant Gray. Thomas, the only known Thomas in this generation, was probably named for Sarah's father.

He signed a will on 19 Mar 1860 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. (320) The will read: "I William Jarvis of the County Wilkes and State of North Carolina do make and Publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made - and first I direct that my body be decently buried and that my funeral be conducted in a manner corresponding with my estate and situation in life and as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to intrust me with I dispose of the same as follows. (321) The date is based on an entry in the Will book which records that the executors returned a list of items sold in the estate sale to the court clerk on 18 Jan 1863. Assuming the sale was three or more weeks after his death, it would place William's death in 1862.
