bullet Elizabeth Johnson was born in 1765 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. Elizabeth's birth date is derived from analysis of the 1787 through 1840 censuses. In order for all of those censuses to be correct, she would have to have been born in 1765 or 1766. This calculation differs by 7 to 8 years from the calculation of the birthdate of the individual believed to be Elizabeth in the 1850 Mortality Schedule.

She died in Oct 1849 in Wilkes Co., North Carolina. (206) Parents: Charles Johnson and Hannah.

She was married to James Jarvis about 1786. No marriage record has yet been found. However, the will of Charles Johnson identifies his daughter Elizabeth as a Jarvis, and other evidence ties the two families together closely. for example, the will was witnessed by Charles Jarvis, son of James and Elizabeth, and was dated 1816. In that year, only four married Jarvises were resident in Wilkes Co.; James Jarvis and his three sons. The three sons' wives are known from reliable records, therefore Elizabeth can only be the wife of James Jarvis. It would also be logical based on her probable age.

The date of the marriage of James and Elizabeth is inferred from the birthdate of their first child, and their apparent ages at that time.

James and Elizabeth lived in the Hunting Creek area of Wilkes Co. all of their married lives (over sixty years) and raised their children in that immediate area. Through the early 1800's they lived close to their children and the large extended family of in-laws, neices, nephews, and cousins. However, possibly due to a shortage of new land for the growing population, the Jarvis children underwent something of a dispersal in the decade between 1840 and 1850. Charles and Hannah migrated to the recently opened frontier in Indiana with their families. Elizabeth and her family moved west to Buncombe County. Ann's family began moving south and west, eventually reaching Arkansas by the early 60's and later Texas. Betsy has not been traced following her marriage to John Howard, and is believed to have migrated with the Howards. By 1850, according to census records, only John, the oldest son, James, William, and Israel remained behind, and Israel appears to have sold his land and left in the early 1850's. James (through his son Welmoth), and John and William, through their large families, gave rise to the Jarvis clan in Wilkes Co in the mid to late 1800's.
