I James Norman of the County of Wilkes and State of North Carolina being in perfect mind and memory thanks be to God fir his mercis and calling to mind the Mortallity of my body, & knowing that is is appointed for all Men once to Die, do make and ordain this to be my last Will and Testament Principally and first of all I I Recommend my Soul unto God who gave it, and my Body to the Earth to be Buried in a decent and Christian like mannn at the discretion of my Esecutors, & as touching my Worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose of in the following manner, it is my Will and desire that after my Death my Will and desire is that my Dearly beloved Wife Ruth Norman shall have peaceable and quiet possession of my land where I now live with the Plantation including one hundred acres during her Natural life or Widowhood and at her Death my desire is that the said House and Hundred Acres of land shall fall to my son Thomas Norman. I give unto my Son Joseph Norman one dollar and no more. I give unto my Son William Norman one dollar and no more. I give into my Son James Norman one dollar and no more. I give unto my Son Isaac Norman one dollar and no more. I give into my Daughter Mary Norman one dollar and no more. I give unto my Son Elijah Norman one dollar and no more. My Will and desire is that my Son Daniel Norman shall have twenty five acres of land adjoining where he now lives. I give unto my * Daughter Ruth Sprinkle one dollar and no more. I give unto my *daughter Rosanna Ball one dollar and no more. I give unto my Son George Norman one dollar and no more. My Will and desire is that my Daugher Ann Staples shall have fifty dollars to be raised out of my Estate. I give unto my Daughter
Kiziah one dollar and no more. I give unto my Son Thomas Norman at the Decease of my Wife my Plantation including my Buildings, containing one Hundred Acres of land. Further I Will and Bequeath unto my dearly beloved wife Ruth Norman all my Household and Kitchen furnitureand also all of my live Stock during her Natural life or widowhood and at her Death or Entermarriage my Will and desire is that the said Household and Kitchen furniture and stock shall be sold to the highest bid and the money arising form the sale be equally divided among the following of my Children,
that is John Norman, Isaac Norman, Mary Norman, Daniel Norman, Ruth Sprinkle, Rosanna Ball, Ann Staples, Kiziah Morgan and Thomas Norman.
And I hereby make and ordain my beloved son Thomas Norman Executor of this my last Will and Testament.
In Witness whereof I the said James Norman have ti this my last Will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed, Sealed, Published and Declared in Presents of of us ~ ~ Harris Stanley, Isam Felts, Jut., Wm. Felts. North Carolina, Wilkes County, Feby Term 1828.

He was born in Virginia.⁽³⁾ James Norman first appeared in Benjamin Cleveland's District of Surry Co., NC Taxables in the year 1774. listing 1 pole. On 23 Feb 1780 he entered 150 acres of land adjoining John Howard and including James Norman's improvements. Several other land transactions are shown in the Wilkes Co. Land Entry Book, and by 1795 he was listed with 508 acres of land and one pole; in 1796 he is listed with 508 acres and 2 poles, and in 1797, he is listed with 508 acres of land but no poles...perhaps indicating that he was then over the age of 60 years.
