He and his party arrived in Ibersheim in Jan 1672. This Ibersheim, about 6
miles below Worms, served as a temporary haven for our ancestors in the long
"trek" to religious freedom. A number of STAUFFERS still live there, per the

Per the above reference Rothenbach lies in the midst of the beautiful northern
slopes of the Swiss Alps in the Canton Bern. The first Stauffer probably dwelt
on the mountain called Stauffen, which is just southwest of the village of
Rothenbach. In the early 1600's there were eight Stauffer men who lived at
Eggiwil. The above reference goes into a lot of detail on where the records of
the early Stauffers are found (in the parish church at Rothenbach), but that
will not be copied here.
