The Coster Family of Glasgow, Scotland

Updated March 7, 2005

About Our Family Research

The Coster Family originate in Holland and after moving to Germany, settled in Scotland during the middle part of the 19th century. There are now descendants living in Canada, England and, of course, Scotland. George Ernst Julius Coster (the writer's Great-Grandfather) was a well respected Gunmaker with businesses in Edinburgh and Glasgow. His guns (mainly sporting guns) are still sought after today. Douglas Gray (George's Grandson), was still carrying on the family tradition until his death in the late 1990's.

George's daughters Euphemia (married Joseph SERGEANT) and Marie (married Charles WATSON) both emigrated to Canada in the early 1900's. Euphemia and Joseph settled in SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK. Marie and Charles settled in STRATHMORE near CALGARY, ALBERTA.

I would appreciate any further information on the Canadian connection. I can be contacted at derek.j.smith@blueyonder.co.uk
