Includes NotesNotes for Millard Fillmore Toms:
The following article was posted by the Orleans County Genweb staff on 12 Jan 2004 and taken from the scrapbooks of Theda Powley Millis of Waterport, NY.

"Liverpool, Oswego, Nov. 11. - George Ecker, who was killed in the wreck at Liverpool last Tuesday morning, left a widow of his bride of three weeks. Ecker was 21 years old and lived up to the time he entered the employ of the New York Central railroad, three years ago, with his parents in Hannibal.. His father, Lawrence Ecker, has held the position of section foreman on the Hannibal division more than a quarter of a century.

Young Ecker brought his young wife to his city and they boarded at No. 165 West Sixth street. They made many friends and were highly esteemed. It is doubtful if there was a more popular young man in the employ of the Central company. His father was among those who went to the scene of the wreck that morning, but he had no idea that his son had been fatally injured until he arrived at Liverpool.

John Miller, the engineer of the passenger train on which Ecker was the fireman, is one of three brothers who have spent their lives in the employ of the Rome, Watertown & Ogdensburg Railroad company. John is the first to meet with an accident or to be in a wreck of any kind.

Mail Agent Milton [sic] F. TOMS, who was killed, ran into this city for nearly thirty years. He was well known and had a large circle of friends. Employees of the Oswego Post Office attended the funeral, held at Lyndonville Thursday."
