Family Origins

The Snells of Sullivan Co., PA Home Page

I believe John Snell, b. Yorkshire Eng. 9 Dec. 1783 m. Rachel Calflesh b. 2 Sept 1788, of Philladelphia, PA. are our line of Snells. They were first in Philadelphia, Moved to New York State, and then they moved into Bradford Co.,PA. They then spread out and John's line moved to Sullivan Co., PA and most of the family settled there, our family through Jonathan Snell ending up in Hillsgrove. According to the notes I received from the Secretary of the Snell Genealogy of Bradford County PA., Nedra Snyder, there are several clues that relates John & Rachel Colflesh Snell to our line.

1. John and Rachel settled on a farm once owned by the Frank McCarty and what is still in the McCarty family line. Francis McCarty married Elfreda (Freda SNELL) still living, daughter of Merton Snell of Hillsgrove, PA.

2. John and Rachel are buried in the Union Church Cemetery in Hillsgrove where many of the SNELL family through John C. Snell and his brothers, are also buried.

3. The children's names of John & Rachel have been carried down through several lines of our SNELL family.

In regards to the Snells, I am researching the following surnames.CAFLESH-McNAMARA-RODGERS-DAILEY-MORRIS-JEMMISON-THOMAS-KETCHEM-HUFFMASTER-DAILEY-FAIRCHILD-McCARTY-STROBLE.
