1558. Jacques Archambault (1) was born in 1604 in Dompierre-sur-Mer, Aunis, France. He died on 15 Feb 1688 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was buried on 15 Feb 1688 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Jacques imagrated to Quebec with his family in 1646, In the company of Pierre Legardeur de Repentigny, director of the Compangie de Habitants. In 1651, he received from the governor of New France land at Cap-Rough, and also another grant from the governor of Montreal in Montreal. After living in Quebec, Jacques lived at Cap-Rough until the fall of 1653. In 1652, one of his sons, Denis, was killed by a cannon's explosion which he was in the process of lighting to shoot at a band of Iroquois thieves.

Having reached Vile-Marie in the fall of 1653, Jacques dug the first well in Montreal for Paul de Chomedy. This fact is recounted by many historians. This pioneer of Montreal, the only one of his name in Canada, left numerous desendants.

In the "Dictionary of Nobility", by M. Jouffroy d'Eschavannes (Paris), is found that a branch of the family Archambault belonged in France to nobility. The branch which lived in Orleans had a coat of arms as follows: "Sky blue with 3 gold lions; in the middle a silver shield with sword, and 3 gold arrows."

Information on the internet shows the birth date as Abt 1808 and not 1604.
