Pierre Milville was an improtant colonist from the coast of Lauzon. He was
of Swiss origin. Pierre was born in 1602 at Fribourg in Switzerland. He was married
in that vicinity in 1629., and in the spring of 1649, he sailed for Canada with
his wife and 6 children. He was given a land grant on the coast of Lauzon, facing
the Plaines d'Abraham, today being situated near the Patton stream in the parish
St. David-de-l'Auberiviere.
In 1669, several colonist came from Fribourg having obtained grants at the Grande-Anse,
now known as St. Anne-de-la-Pocatiere. Pierre supervised the cultivation of their
land which carried the name of "Canton of Swiss Fribourgeois." This
atempt at colonizing did not succeed and the Swiss all returned to their country
with the exception of Pierre Milville, who stayed on the coast of Lauzon where
he soon became a captain in the militia.
This colonist who was known as "the Swiss", after his origin, left
numerous desendants in Canada. Pierre was a Master Carpenter by trade.

Notes for Pierre Miville, dit Le Suisse:
A biog. of Pierre Miville dit le Suisse - pg 511 (publication?)
He was a master-joiner and captain of the Lauson shore; died 14 Oct. 1669. Swiss
by birth, Miville came to Canada via La Rochelle at a date that has not been
established with certainty but that was previous to 28 Oct. 1649, on which date
he , along with his son, Francois, received from the governor, Louis d' Ailleboust,
a grant of land in the seigneury of Lauson, which was later raised to the status
of an arriere-fife. Miville apparently tried to entice some of his compatriots
to Canada. In fact, on 16 July 1665, M. de Prouville de Tracy granted , along
with his sons and four other persons, a concession measuring 21 arpents by 40
at Grande Anse (La Pocatière), naming the locality "the Canton of the
Fribourg Swiss." This undertaking was unsuccessful. Pierre Miville stayed
at Lauson until his death, 14 Oct. 1669. In France he had married Charlotte Maugis,
who bore him six children at least; one of them, Jacques, was the founder of
the Miville-Deschénes families of North America.
