From 1900 census; the widow Mary J. Stanton, age 63, lived on a mortgaged farm in Madison District(west part), Shenandoah County, Virginia. She was born in Virginia and her father was born in Maryland, her mother in Virginia. Living with Mary in 1900 was a daughter Lizzie, a son Harry, and a granddaughter Emma F(or T) Kibler who was born in Missouri. *Note: Other census records list her father as being born in Virginia.

Family records of Melvin Stanton lists her as Mary Louise Bower. No other records match this name.
