Died at his residence in Cambridge, Aug 17, 1878, Andrew Ayres was born in Yorkshire, England, in the year 1804, came to Michigan with his father's family in 1832, erected a log house at Springville in 1833, which was kept as a tavern for a number of years. He afterwards built a large commodious residence - the first brick house in town. For several years he was town treasurer; the balance sheet was monthly and yearly correct. "A kind husband, with a tender and rewarding care for his daughters, honorable in all his dealings, for truthfulness;ness entirely beyond suspicion; a true and noble man; the town lost a worthy citizen, the community a tried and valued friend. In him passes away one of the survivors of a generation of men whose name is indelibly stamped on the history of Cambridge, one who has grown grey with honorable years, fading from this earth like the passing clouds with silvery edges, down to the tomb, from whence there is no return."
