August P Ceill was born July 03, 1919, and died November 16, 1990 in Cherry Hill, NJ. He married Marion Ayres on Bef. 1950, daughter of Jesse Sylvester Ayres and Mary E Link.

August P Ciell, a former chief of Otolaryngology, and a past president of the medical staff at West Jersey Hospitals who practiced medicine in Camden County for more than thirty years, died suddenly Friday at West Jersey Hospital - Marlton.

Dr Ciell lived in Cherry Hill and was a partner in the offices of Ciell, Roncace, Sumerson, Agro & Gadomski on Haddon Avenue in Haddonfield until his retirement last year.

He graduated from Gettysburg College in 1941 and received his medical degree three years later from Temple University School of Medicine. He served as an intern at Protestant Episcopal Hospital in Philadelphia and as a resident at Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia.

He served with the Navy Medical Corps ion Korea aboard the hospital ship Constellation and the cruiser Rochester before retiring in 1956 as a lieutenant commander. For three years after World War II, Dr Ciell was on the staffs of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and the US Naval Hospital, both in Philadelphia.

He was a professor of Otolaryngology (the study of ear, nose, and throat) at Thomas Jefferson University Medical School from 1960 until 1984. In 1970, he received a 10-year gold service award from the Academy of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.

In 1981, Dr Ciell was named Chief of Otolaryngology and president of the medical staff at West Jersey Hospitals, positions he held for one year. From 1984 to 1985 he was president of the Camden County Medical Society. He also was a former guest lecturer at the University of PA and a former consultant to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wilmington.

Dr Ciell is survived by his wife, Marion C Ayers; two sons, Michael P and August P, Jr; two daughters, Christine McBride and Kathryn Murphy, and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 pm today and after 8:30 am tomorrow at Schetter Funeral Home, 304 W Route 70, Cherry Hill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am tomorrow at St Thomas Moore Church, Springdale Road, Cherry Hill. Burial will follow an New St Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr.

Note:
Dr Ciell treated some very famous patients; Inglebert Humpernickel and Judy Garland. Muhamed Ali was his neighbor in Cherry Hill, where Dr Ciell had purchased a 200 year old home.

The hearing and speech part of his medical practice is still called "Ciell Institute" and is located in Haddonfield, NJ.
