bullet Augustin BLACKBURN was born in 1791. The acutal Marriage contract for Augustin Blackburn and Julienne Bergeron is dated 15 Jan 1825 by Notaire Levesque. A genealogist friend, Sigfrid Tremblay shared some interesting information concerning Augustin Sr and Augustin Jr. Blackburn. Sigfrid found some legal documents indicating that Augustin Sr. sold Augustin Jr lot 13, rang #1 du Canton Simard. This transaction was notorized by John Chaperon 19 Jan 1850. It appears that this particular lot was not the legitimate property of Augustin Sr. as is also indicated in a protest by Abraham Lapointe of Riviere-du-Loup before Notary Ovide Bosse on 12 Aug. 1850, eventhough the said lot had been cleared & planted by Augustin Sr. Blackburn. Lapointe resold the lot in question. Squatting was a fairly common practice during the early development of the Saguenay area. It is also interesting to note that Augustin Sr. and his sons Augustin Jr and Peter were living on the property of George McKenzie at the 1851 census of Laterriere. George McKenzie was married to Augustin Sr.'s daughter Jemima or Caroline Blackburn. Can't help wondering if this incident percipitated Augustin Jr.'s migration to the US.
